Conversation with a 3 year old

I had dinner with my brother and nephews tonight.  After dinner, Grant and I jumped on the trampoline, played tee ball, and threw the frisbee.  When it was time to come in, we all settled in the living room and I asked Grant a very important question.

Me: Grant, what do you think about Aunt Clare having a baby next year?

Grant: NO

Me: You don't want a cousin?

Grant: NO

Me: You just want me to take care of you?

Grant: YES

So folks, there we have it.  Grant has spoken.  And no, we are NOT pregnant.  Just thought I'd ask Grant how he felt.

ugh

This morning did not start well.  But before I get into that, you should know that I went to bed at 8 p.m. last night, so you'd think I'd have a great day after 10+ hours of sleep.  But that, my friend, was not the case.

I woke up around 5:30 this morning and noticed that my eye was kinda sore.  I crawled out of bed, turned on the bathroom light, and sure enough, my eye was all puffy and swollen.  Kinda pink, but not the 'matted, drainage, pink-eye pink', so I thought I'd be fine.  I wore my glasses today, which I hate doing, just so my contacts wouldn't irritate it any further.  I did great all day.  I didn't rub my eye and it didn't bother me.  Until about 4:45.  When all I wanted to do was take a sharp point and scratch the bejeezus out of it.  And it hasn't stopped since.  As a matter of fact, it's started draining as well.  So, I assume when I wake up in the morning, I'll have a nice matted eye and won't be able to go to work.  Because we all know, pink eye is contagious.

To make matters worse, I decided to wear a pair of shoes today that I haven't worn in, oh, I don't know, 3 years.  They're super cute, Cole Haan, pointy toe black shoes with a very low heel.  But they rubbed about 7 blisters on my toes and I think I'll burn them at the stake.  So at lunch, I had Chris bring me some different shoes, but forgot to mention I needed some socks with them, so now I also have 2 blisters on the back of my heels...in addition to the other 18 blisters.  So I think I'll go crawl in a hole now.  Especially because I feel like I've been beaten with the ugly stick.

Aunt Clare and Grant's Day-O-Fun!

I got up early yesterday morning with good intentions to go down to H.S. to work with my dad, but I got a text from my brother wanting to know if I could help out with Grant.  Turns out, Jude was up sick all night, which kept my SIL up all night, and my brother was working, so they needed help.  Grant had big plans to go to the library to see Brian Kinder, and all morning long he talked about going to see Brian Big Show.  Before we left, we told Grant we needed to go change and put his day clothes on.  When he realized he was going to have to take off his Batman PJ shirt, he about threw down the gauntlet.  But my SIL decided it was fine if he wanted to wear his Batman shirt out.  It was, after all, the first time he's shown any preference on what he wanted to wear.  Grant got lots of compliments on his shirt, too, and he proudly showed it off.

If you have young kids, you should check out Brian Kinder and his wife, Terri.  Their songs are fun and his shows are great.

Anyway, I took a couple pictures of Grant.

Before Brian Big Show.  Grant sitting at the window with his snack.

Grant after the show at McDonald's.

After Grant and I got home, it was time for his nap and I left my SIL to try to put Jude down so she could get some rest.  Then, last night, Chris and I went to a friends house, Pam and Micha, to play Guitar Hero with them and Jennifer and Joe.  They all have kids, so it was a good birth control night for Chris and myself :).  We had a great time, and even Chris enjoyed it!  He normally is skeptical around new people, but Joe is bald like Chris, and they were playing video games, so he warmed up pretty fast!  Can't wait to do it again, ya'll!

Crouching Ninja, Hidden Robber

My friend sent me this link to a news story about these persons who are apparently robbing some drug stores.  I know it's not a new concept, but they are dressing like NINJAS!  You can find the news store here.

I had a super slow work day today.  I'm normally super busy, but today was so slow.  There were only a few doctors in, so that makes for a slow day.  The only interesting thing that happened was when a lady came in to have her hearing aids adjusted.

Me: calling into the waiting room Mrs. Whatchacallit

Mrs. Whatchacallit:  I'm not deaf.

Me: thinking to myself: You have hearing aids, don't you.  This should be fun.

I adjust her hearing aids some and she puts them in her ears.

Me:  Are we on?

Mrs. Whatchacallit:  No

Me: Can you hear me?

Mrs. Whatchacallit: Yes.  But there's no noise

Me:  Good, we don't want there to be noise.  That's what you wanted me to change.

Mrs. Whatchacallit: Yeah, but they're not whistling.

Me:  That's because they're in your ear correctly.

Mrs. Whatchacallit: as she covers her ears with her hands: But they are supposed to squeal when I do this.

Me: Not always, especially if they fit well and are in your ear correctly.  They will whistle if you mess with the microphones.

Mrs. Whatchacallit: Like this?  And they start squealing away

Me:  Yes.  Like that.

I was so ready to get her out of the office!  I think I'll avoid her next time she comes in :)

I got home this evening and Chris and I went and took a little swim in the pool, had dinner, and we're going to watch a movie here in a few minutes.  I love it when he's home!

This never happens!!

I saw 3 people I knew today at work!!  I NEVER see anyone I know outside of special occasions (weddings, birthday parties, planned dinners).  NOT EVER.  And today I saw THREE people I knew!  Of course I can't tell you who (because that would be a HIPAA violation, but I was so excited!

Chris always knows someone, no matter where we are.  It makes me so mad!  It's kinda a curse, though, because he pretty much never forgets a face.  Names, however, are a different story.  We can't walk through the mall in NWA without running into people he knows.  We were in Chicago once and he knew someone.

So...
I feel pretty special :)  And I bragged about it to him when I got home :)

The day I had

This was a conversation this morning before we started seeing patients.  All the audiologists were standing around when one started talking about when her daughter was in Copenhagen.

Audiologist: When my daughter was in Copenhagen all anyone would take for payment besides cash was a Danish Visa card.  Who has a Danish Visa?
**Everyone at this point was asking why it was so important to the Danish people for them to have their own Visa?
Me: I don't know about ya'll, but I have 3.

I thought my supervisor was going to pee his pants.  Seriously.  I mean, it's a little funny, but not a lot funny.

Then we had a doozie of a patient come in.  He gave the receptionist a horrible time (and she happens to be one of the sweetest people I know) and so she scheduled him to come back later in the afternoon for me to see him for a hearing aid counseling.  This is how it went.

Me: This is the type of hearing aid that I recommend for you.  Do you want the same type of earmold for both ears?

Patient: You're the professional, you tell me.

Me:  I chose the guts of the hearing aid, there's no changing that.  You need to tell me how much you care about your appearance, because there's going to be 2 different types of styles.  One is an earmold and the other is open with a thin tube.  Do you want them to be the same on both hearing aids or not?

Patient: Oh.

***screaming inside***  Some patients can just wear on your patience.  But I sold him 2 hearing aids.  Hopefully they'll work out!

Hope everyone else had a good day!

Put this down in the history books

I miss Texas.  And not necessarily the STATE, but those that I love that live there.   I didn't realize how attached I became to my routine (school, study, clinic; school, study, clinic) and the people I spent all my time with.  I miss them!!

My great friends, Arthur and Gretchen had twins (boy/girl) last week and I can't believe I missed it!  I can't wait to see the babies in person!  But in the meantime, pictures will have to do.  They are so cute and so far look just like their daddy!

 Kane Reese

Joni just moved to D.C. for her externship year.  She always kept things in perspective for us all and told us how it was.  It could be really interesting at times considering she doesn't have a filter.  She let me crash on the air mattress while I was homeless in TX and my hubby was homeless in AR.  She has two Yorkies and always kept Baxter when we couldn't take him somewhere.  Just don't wake her up, she might bite.  :)

Shannon is in LA and is pretty much just like me.  Kind of quiet until she gets to know you, and then she just tells you how it is.  She hemmed pants for me for my interview and let me stay at her house in her comfy guest bedroom when I had clinic in LA.   She and I are secret ninjas together (although not so secret anymore), and she loves the Razorbacks.  I think mainly to piss her husband off, who is an avid LSU fan, but that's fine by me.

Lindsay is the most dedicated person I know.  She's an avid cycler, she puts God first in everything she does (which is something I admire, mainly because I have a difficult time doing it and she makes it seem so easy), and she always always looks cute...which makes me sick :)  I don't think she has an enemy anywhere.  Everyone loves her.  Oh, and did I forget she's brilliant?  I'm amazed at how she works through problems.

The 4 of us after receiving our White Coats.
Left to Right: Shannon, Joni, Lindsay, me

Celina is my other awesome friend to whom I owe my sincerest gratitude because she kept me from freaking out after the Praxis.  She's a year ahead of me in school, but we're the same age and she and I lived in the same apartment complex for a while.  We studied for Medical Aud together and when she moved I was so sad!  But I got to stay with her when I had clinic at the VA in Houston.  She and her fiance would cook me dinner and then we would have a round of Rock Band before calling it a night.  She's so kind and generous and always keeps me on my toes!

OK, done with memory lane...for now.

Teaser

That was the name of the email I received from my husbands brother and sister in law, Jon and Emily.  When I opened it up, it was a picture from Memorial Day.  Jon and Emily were so kind to take some family photos of my side of the family.  Here's the one they sent.

I love it!  You can check them out here and here.
Thanks again!  Can't wait to see the rest!

*sigh*

I'm officially exhausted.  This week I started my new job at AOC in LR.  It's a ginormous ENT clinic, the largest in the state...and it wore me out!  For those of you who don't know, I'm in my 4th year of my doctorate degree, and the 4th year is an externship year where all you do is work.  I haven't worked the past 3 years, and working 8-5, Monday - Friday is so tiring!  I forgot how draining it was!  On the bright side, everyone I work with is amazing.  They are so intelligent and each person is so patient with me!  (So far at least.  I mean, it has only been a week.  The patience thing I mean, not the intelligence part).  The doctors (most of them) are fairly approachable and willing to teach, and it stays SO busy!  Oh!  And I sold 2 hearing aids today!  Woo Hoo for me!  Now, only 51 weeks to go!

Congratulations!

Congratulations Arthur and Gretchen on your new babies!  They are so beautiful!  Kamryn arrived at 6:42 and Kane arrived at 6:43!  Can't wait to meet them in August!

Kamryn and Kane are girl/boy twins...in case you were wondering :)
