A new way to vote!

At work the other day, we were all discussing the presidential candidates and comparing the pros and cons and what not (we obviously were very slow that day) and we decided there should be a new way of voting.

You see, most of the group doesn't like the Republican nominee, McCain, enough to vote for him.  And they also don't like the Democratic nominee, Obama, enough to vote for him, either.  So we decided that there should be 3 options on the ballot.  You would place your vote next to the option you like best.

Option #1:  Republican presidential nominee and VP

Option #2: Democrat presidential nominee and VP

Option #3: Re-vote

And if Option #3 wins, the Republicans have to come up with a new nominee and the same thing goes for the Democrats.

Sounds fair enough, right?

Nephew Withdrawal

I really miss my nephews!  I mean, I saw them on Monday, but it just wasn't good enough.  My SILs parents are in town for the weekend, so I am keeping my distance so they can have the boys to themselves (I get to see them a couple times a week, and they get to see them a few days every month or two, but still) and not feel like I'm diverting their attention.  I never have any pics of Jude, so here's a recent picture from a trip to Hot Springs.  Isn't he precious?

Ok, maybe I'll sneak over for a quick visit :)

Quick catch up

Chris and I left Thursday after I got off work to go to NWA and we had a great time catching up with friends!  I got a chance to see Yvette and Ella, and we went to a party with people we haven't seen in what seems forever!  The party was a reception for a couple of friends who eloped to Vegas in April, and so this was their way of having everyone celebrate.  They have a pool, so we all got a chance to swim and play.  I'll post pics when we finish up the disposable camera (we forgot our digital one).

But, before we left, I had a patient earlier in the week bring back her hearing aids.  She claimed that I gave her the wrong information about the price of the hearing aid.  But she also showed up for her 1:30 appointment at 10:30 and called me Carla the whole time.  So I was fairly certain she was just confused.  She told me the earmolds didn't fit and that the hearing aids didn't work.  So I took them back, smiled, and told her if she changed her mind, she could come back.

Well.  She changed her mind.  And she's coming in later in the week to be re-fit.  But this time she'll have to sign saying she understands how much they cost.

On another note, we had dinner with Jon, Kricia, Grant, Jude, and my mother (who happens to be staying the night with us tonight) at this yummy Mexican place.  Grant even said 'quesadilla' and we all cheered :)

Maybe next time I'll have pictures!

Church and other tidbits

Friday, Chris and I went to our friends home for dinner and to play.  Jennifer and Joe made an awesome dinner and Chris made dessert, banana pudding.  The boys (Chris, Joe and Micha) played Wii while us girls (me, Jennifer and Pam) caught up on life.  I haven't really been around to keep up with much the past 5 or 6 years.  Probably longer than that now that I think about it, but I'm so glad we can all get together and have a great time.  Pam and Jennifer told me some stories about when we were kids that I think I've forgotten for a reason.  Can't wait to do it again!

Yesterday I got brave (because I've been rather shy lately) and ventured to church.  Alone.  As in, without my safety hubby (kinda like a blankie, but a person).  But, the good thing about my religion is that, wherever you go, it's the same.  The same I tell you.  It all works the exact same way.  And that's good for me, because I don't do well with change.  I'm lucky enough to be in a ward that a friend of mine is in.  I called her and asked if I could sit with her and her hubby and daughter, so I wouldn't be all by my lonesome.  She obliged...thankfully, and she showed me where all the classes are.  She doesn't know that I will now be sitting with her every Sunday Chris isn't with me.  Pam, if you read this, I guess you know now :)  And thanks for letting me sit with you!

Anyway, Sunday just happened to be my first full day at church since we've moved.  And it also happened to be the day where persons in the ward invited their friends to our church so that they could be more informed about our religion.  So everyone assumed I was a visitor because I was with Pam and Micha.  But they soon found out that I was just another member.  Maybe they can use their pouncing powers on Chris :)

But there is one tiny thing that irks me about our church.  It doesn't matter if it's your first Sunday at the new ward, they will ask you if you would like to be a visiting teacher.  They will hunt you down.  They don't care.  They will pounce.  Beware.  And there's one phrase that can buy you time.  It is "Let me get settled into the ward for a while".  They leave you alone after this.

On another note, I helped keep Grant on Saturday.  He was so precious.  Jude was scooting all around and we told Grant to show him how to crawl (although Grant never crawled, come to think of it, he went straight to walking) and Grant just scooted across the floor like a worm.  Then he wanted to watch Doodlebops, so I turned it on the computer, and he was mesmerized.  We went for a wagon ride, had lunch, and they both went down for their naps fairly early.  Mom said they had been up since 5 a.m., so they were exhausted!  I'm so glad I have the opportunity to be close to them!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Just another blog

Yesterday was the worst day ever.  EVER.

Ok, so that may be a little exaggerated, but I still had a pretty awful afternoon.  I was in the swing of things, testing hearing left and right, and then HE walked in.  Male.  Chauvinist. Pig.  And he made me cry.  Jerk.  He wouldn't let me finish a sentence, and the last thing he said to me was "Don't you people know anything?".  So I threw a brochure at him and walked out.  Before I started to cry in front of him.  I didn't want him to know that he got to me.  This guy thought he was entitled to it all, and didn't believe that a woman, no matter how educated she may be, could ever know how to help.  So after that, I just kept replaying it in my mind, and kept asking myself why I didn't kick him in the knee.  But then I remembered the answer: Because I like my job and want to graduate.  Details.

Also, yesterday was my bro's birthday.  I called to wish him a happy day, and he invited Chris and me for dinner.  Dinner and I got to see my nephews!  That was the perfect solution to my crappy afternoon.  Grant was precious.  He told me he had a boo-boo on his hand, and asked me to kiss it, so I obliged.  And once he figured out that he could point to something and deem it a boo-boo, then he would get kisses all over.  Too smart, that kid.  Too smart.  He and Chris jumped on the trampoline and it wore Chris out!  We had a few drinks and a great time, and apparently I'm taking care of Grant and Jude this weekend!  Should be interesting :)

Happy Wednesday!

Our 4th of July fun!

Chris and I had date night last night, and what better night this month to have date night than the 4th!  When Chris got home from work, it was raining, but we got our lawn chairs and packed our rain coats and headed downtown.  We were both starving, so we had dinner first at Flying Fish.  We both had the catfish (it's so yummy) and when we were done, we decided that we would walk to the Clinton Library.  Admission was free and they were having a bunch of activities outside.  We just didn't plan on them being closed by the time we got there.  It closed at it's usual time (5 pm) and we got there about 5:10.  So we didn't get to go inside, but we walked around it and watched all these little kids dancing, it was so cute.  We walked back towards the car to pick up the chairs, and headed to the amphitheater to claim our spot.

If you've never been to L.R. for the 4th and you live or are visiting during that time, you should definitely go to Pops on the River.  My parents took us as kids, and it's one of my favorite childhood memories.  The symphony plays, the fireworks are shot off from the river, and it's just a lot of fun.  There was this one guy, though, who was capital D drunk.  He was kinda fun to watch.

So I took a few pics with my phone because we forgot the camera at the house.  I hope everyone had a great 4th!

Chris and I waiting for all the festivities to begin.

Dessert :)

Chris was excited that the symphony was playing and the fireworks were starting soon!

My good friend, Joni Bologna, just recently moved to D.C., and sent a little clip of the fireworks to me.  I was so jealous!  And then Chris proceeded to tell me that when he was in high school band, he got to play there on the 4th on the lawn of the capital.  Punk.

Happy 4th of July!

HISTORY:
1. In 1776, John Adams declared, "The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America.  I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival.  It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore."

2. In 1777, thirteen guns were fired, once at morning and again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island.  Philadelphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks.  Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting.

3.  In 1777, General George Washington marked July 4 with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute.  Across the Atlantic Ocean, ambassadors John Adams and Benjamin Franklin held a dinner for their fellow Americans in Paris, France.

4.  In 1779, July 4 fell on a Sunday.  The holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 5.

5.  In 1781, the Massachusetts General Court became the first state legislature to recognize July 4 as a state celebration.

6.  In 1870, the U.S. Congress made Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal employees.

7.  In 1941, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday.  The residents of Vicksburg, Mississippi, celebrated Independence Day for the first time since July 4, 1863, when the Siege of Vicksburg ended with a Union victory during the American Civil War.

8.  John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers of the U.S., and the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence to become President of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the United States' 50th anniversary.
