3-Day Weekends!

I'm so excited to get a 3 day weekend!  Now that I'm in the working world, I never get out for the school holidays/closures like Spring Break, Christmas Break, summer.  It's kinda depressing to tell you the truth!  But so far we've been busy with our Labor Day weekend!  I don't have any pictures to share (I'm a picture slacker), so stone me later.

Friday, Chris and I got to have a date night.  We didn't do anything special, but we curled up on the couch, watched a movie, ate pizza, and cuddled.  It's been a while since we had a night to ourselves and I didn't have to study or do my other wifely duties (laundry, dishes, general cleaning all around).

Last night we were invited to a friend's home for BBQ.  Chris and I brought chicken, Joe and Jen brought teriyaki beef (super yummy) and Pam and Micha made grilled shrimp (also super yummy).  We also had rice, potato salad, green beans, deviled eggs and watermelon.  It was so cute watching how Joe and Chris took over the grill.  I think Micha was okay with that, he got to come in and watch some of the Michigan vs. Utah game.  After dinner we played yet another new game.  I don't remember the name of it, but the board is a big map and you get 3 cards with destinations on it, and you have to get your trains to all the destinations.  Joe won...snot.  It was fun, Chris and I may have to buy that one!

Tonight we are going to the Traveler's game with my family.  We probably won't stay too long, but it'll be fun anyways.  Then tomorrow night we're going to H.S. to BBQ at my parents house.  I love it when we get together there.  My mom makes the best BBQ beans and deviled eggs EVER!

We have some friends having to evacuate for Hurricane Gustav, so I hope they make it to their destinations safely and that no harm or damage comes to their loved ones or property.  It sucks having to evacuate.  Chris and I lived in SETX almost exactly one month before having to evacuate for Rita.  So good luck everyone!

Jack-a-roo update

Jack is home from the vet this evening.  My dad was so upset he couldn't be with him last night, but he was heavily sedated and today they finally got his hip back in place.  He's in a sling so he can't move his hip too much, but he's loving on my dad and my dad's loving him back.  I asked mom what was going to happen to that lab, and the owner offered to pay for Jack's vet bills and they are going to put up an electric fence to keep him in the yard.  Thank you for the prayers!

On a lighter note, we had a woman at work today who was prescribed green pills, but refused to take them because she doesn't take green pills.  Strange, but today was strange all around.  One patient seemed high, a woman insisted she be the only person to translate through sign to her brother (she spelled EVERYTHING out), and we had a super moaner.

And it's official!  We are finally...ARKANSANS again!  (you thought i was going to say pregnant).  We got our tags and licenses today.  We've only been driving with expired tags all month, so it was about time.

After we did that, we went to the mall to have my rings checked and I also wanted to stop by Dillard's because they were having 75% off shoe sale.  And let's face it, every girl needs a new pair of shoes at 75% off.  So I got 3 pairs.  We walked to the men's Dillard's and they were only having 50% off, but we found some cute ones for Chris and got those, too.  There's nothing like a little shoe therapy!

WOO HOO!  It's almost the weekend!

Jack-a-roo

My dad's dog, Jack, was attacked today by a golden lab.  His back leg is torn up, the dog tore his hip out of socket, and has torn some ligaments and cartilage.  He'll be okay, once the vet is finally able to put his hip back in place, but Jack's outdoor running time is long gone.

My mom called and said a dog tore Jack up and he was at the vet.  I originally thought he had been mauled and was just barely hanging in there.  Then I talked to my dad, and he explained what his injuries were and that he'd be okay, but he probably won't be himself.

Baxter loves Jack and Jack is the only dog Baxter really loves.  Jack is 8 years old in human years, and he is super fast, which is probably a good thing, because that's probably how he got away.  But the neighbor found him barely being able to walk and carried him home and got in touch with my dad.

So please keep Jack-a-roo in your prayers.  I know he's a dog, but he's our family, too.

Hot Dog!

A while back when Grant was potty training, the whole family was gathered at my parents home in H.S.  I noticed that Grant had snuck off to a corner and suspected he was about to 'go to town' so I alerted my mom and brother.  Mom jumped out of her chair, got Grant, and took him to the bathroom.  She sat him down on the potty and he pooped!  Mom was so excited she said 'Hot Dog!'

Fast forward to today.  Grant told me he had to potty.  We go to the bathroom and he tells me he needs to 'sit down potty'.  I sat him on the potty and asked him if he was going to poop.  He gave me the weirdest look and said 'No'.  I knew he was, but figured he didn't know what poop was yet.  But when he got off the potty and I told him to flush, he looked at his poop and said 'Bye-Bye Hot Dog!'

We think it's hilarious that he calls his poop, hot dogs.  But we'll never look at hot dogs in the same light again.

What a BUSY weekend!

My parents went on vacation about 2 weeks ago, and so we watched their dog, Jack.    He is super good (at least as good as a Jack Russell can possibly be) in his old age and Baxter thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread.  We really took him because we needed my parents to take Baxter while we went away for the weekend.   We're sneaky like that :)

We took off Thursday mid morning (I had to work till 11) and headed to SETX.  We met some friends, Arthur and Gretchen, and their new babies, twins Kamryn and Kane (girl/boy) for dinner that night.  They are a little more than 2 months old and so adorable!  We stayed at their house Thursday night and had a blast.  We stayed up way past our bedtime and slept in a little Friday morning.

We had some errands to run Friday in Beaumont, so we got that done and headed to SWLA to visit Shannon and Jeremy.  I go to school with Shannon and she's one of my bestest friends :)  We had a great dinner (they're french/cajun and boy can they cook) and watched Phelps win his 7th gold of the Olympics in the 100 m (?) breaststroke.  It was AWESOME!  We called it an early night and headed for bed after that.  The next morning (Saturday) we got up and headed back to SETX for graduation.

Another great friend of ours, Celina, graduated with her Au.D. Saturday, so we wanted to be there to support her.  She was supposed to be the 3rd one called (her last name would make her 3rd in her group of Audiology, and Audiology was first because of the 'A'...obviously), but they called the first 2 and then skipped her and went to the Engineering department.  She was freaking out!  But they figured out their mistake and went back to her.  After she graduated (we didn't stay for the whole thing) we went to Houston.  Celina had a graduation party at the Downtown Aquarium Saturday night and we had a wonderful time!

Sunday morning we got up and drove to Dallas.  We made a few stops on the way, and had an early dinner with our friends Lindsay and Adam.  Lindsay and I also go to school together and had a great time catching up.  I think we bored the boys to death, though :)  It was so nice to see them!  We ate at Chuy's, this little mexican joint, and it was DELICIOUS!  After dinner, Chris and I headed back to LR.

We got in late, but had a wonderful trip...even though we were so busy!  Now to catch up on some sleep :)

Rough Day

This morning I went to work.  It began like any typical Wednesday morning.  I pulled into the parking lot and the landscaping guys were there.  I went upstairs, started settling in for the morning and my coworker Kevin kinda ran by.  I just figured he was going to get a drink or something, so I kept working on my notes.

And then I heard a patient crying.

And then I heard sirens.

And so I walked to the front of the building.  There were fire trucks, ambulances, one of our doctors...and our crash cart from the surgery center.

Apparently, one of the landscaping guys was on the riding lawnmower (one of those 0 degrees ones) and he was on the side of the building.  With the lawn mower on top of him.  He apparently hit the hill at the wrong angle and it flipped him over.  The best they could tell is that when it flipped over, he hit his head at the right spot to knock him out, and either he suffocated from the angle he was in or it cut off his airway, because his neck was not broken.

The lawnmower was cold, so nobody knew how long he had been like that.

One of our patients found him.

Our doctor pronounced him dead.  It was awful.

Just goes to show that you never know what can happen to you and when.

On a lighter note, Chris saw a Camaro with 2 black guys driving it, and a pair of truck nuts on the back.

Chris and I are headed to TX tomorrow, so hope everyone has a great weekend!!!  Loves!

Funnies in Audiology

Yesterday I tested a 7 year old boy.  He did great, it wasn't his first go around with having his hearing checked.  He was practically a seasoned pro.  But after I got done testing him, he made a comment to me.

Child:  I know your secret.  (as matter of fact as you can get for a 7 year old)

Me: Oh no.  What secret?

I know how you got that windy noise in my ear.

You do!?  How?

I saw your hand move.

You DO know my secret!  Please don't tell anyone!

I am. I'm gonna tell my momma, my daddy, AND my grandma.

But then they'll be able to cheat!

Yeah, but they'll pass.

Can't get ANYTHING past these dang kids nowadays.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

25 + 3

That's how old I am now.  And we don't say the actual number...FYI.  Yesterday was my birthday and I had a great day!  Celebrations started Friday night when Chris and I went to the IMAX and saw Batman: The Dark Knight and it was a wonderful movie and by far the creepiest Batman movie to date.  I think knowing that Heath Ledger died from an overdose after making the movie made it even more creepier.  Anyhow, it was a great movie and seeing it on the IMAX was awesome!

Yesterday I got some housework done in the a.m., and then a couple friends and their kiddos came over and we swam for a couple of hours.  After they left, I took a shower and headed to Dillards.  I found a really cute skirt and a couple of tops, but when I went to check out I thought Chris had my debit card so I wrote a check and it was denied!  I was so embarrassed.  I knew I had plenty of moneys in my account so I was really confused.  I called the company that runs the checks through, and turns out that Dillards was monitoring for a certain type of fraud written on checks over a certain amount, and mine looked enough like that to be stopped and considered high risk.  I was really mad and so I didn't go back to get my stuff.

For dinner, Chris made us reservations at this Brazilian Steak House called Gaucho's.  My mom and dad, Uncle Robert, a couple cousins, Jennifer and Joe, and Pam and Micha came.  The restaurant brings you out some side dishes and then they come to your table with a huge skewer of meat, they tell you what it is, and if you want it, they start carving a piece for you.  It was chaos to me and I was pretty overwhelmed, but it was really good.  I ate way too much!  They had grilled pineapple that was delicious and they brought me out a birthday creme brulee for dessert.

After dinner and saying goodbye to my family, Chris and I went to Pam and Micha's to play cards.  Jennifer and Joe and Pam and Micha taught us a new card game called Hand and Foot.  It was fun, but there were too many rules for me to wrap my head around for one night.  We'll have to do it again!

Here are some pictures of my birthday!
